On Wednesday, October 21st, PWU Bruce Site member, Robert McCourt, presented a donation of $5,000 to P.R.A.N.C.E. (Pegasus Riding Association Nurturing Challenged Equestrians) in Port Elgin.

“This is thrilling and will do so much good,” said Ann Marie Johnston, P.R.A.N.C.E. Executive Director/Volunteer Coordinator.  “Given COVID-19 and our loss of fundraising through events such as the annual craft show, this will tremendously help to subsidize those who may not be able to afford a riding program.”

Without the revenue generated from fundraising, PRANCE is also looking for alternative strategies to help off-set the income loss which is used for horse care including: regular veterinary checks and medication, farrier services, massage and chiropractic, feed and supplements, horse boarding, etc. Indeed, monthly horse care for the PRANCE horses runs on average at $7,500/month or $90,000 per year.

“We are fortunate that we have some donors like Lori Kohl who annually support the upkeep for a horse.”

To date, the PWU Equity Fund has distributed over $3Million within local communities.
