Rotary exchange student off to Germany

On August 4th, Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) Grade 11 student, Kaedra Traynor, flew off to Aachen, Germany, where she will attend high school for the next 11 months.

She will live with three host families during her stay, become immersed in the language and culture, and anticipates coming back a different person. Kaedra is sponsored by the Southampton Rotary Club, but was chosen among other applicants, by members of all three Rotary clubs.
She has become familiar with all three local Rotary clubs, and spoke to them about her selection, the application process and her feelings about becoming a Canadian youth ambassador to Germany.
Kaedra participated in several training sessions over this past year, to prepare her for this role. All Canadian exchange students for 50+ years have donned the red blazer that Kaedra is wearing in the photo. She will miss her mom, Lee, and little brother, Koden, but is looking forward to the challenge of becoming a German teen for a year.
SDSS, the community and local Rotary clubs wish Kaedra well on this life-shaping and, perhaps, life-changing, adventure.
Rotary also looks forward to welcoming inbound exchange student, Rei Kaneda from Japan, on August 21st.  Rei will be hosted by the Southampton Rotary club and will also attend SDSS.
