Despite a blustery cold morning on May 31st, more than 1,000 participants took part in the 2025 the Rotary Huron Shore Run.
From Waterloo to Wiarton, Toronto to Stratford, Guelph to Cambridge and Markdale to Meaford and all points in between, they came to participate in what has become a major fundraiser for local charitable organizations and the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The province does not provide funding for hospital equipment and, therefore, funds raised at events such as the Rotary Huron Shore Run are critical for ensuring that local hospitals can provide the highest quality of health care to communities.
In 2025, donations will go toward the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF), Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club (SSLSC), Saugeen Shores Track and Field Team (STFC), Breakers Swim Team, Chantry Seniors Centre, and Rotary community projects.
The youngest registered runner was Knox McBride age 16 of Port Elgin and the most senior was Barry Mellish of Owen Sound at age 73. For a full list of registered participants and their times, CLICK HERE.
Following the runs, everyone returned to the Southampton Coliseum where a luncheon was provided and awards were presented.
Some of those who participated formed teams when it came to fundraising. One of the most philanthropic is that of Mary Putman’s, owner of the Walker House. This year, ‘Friends Forever’, raised more than $4,500.

As with previous Huron Shore Runs, the volunteers play a key role throughout the day.
A final total raised and disbursements to the various charitable organizations has yet to be determined.
