Rotary on the receiving end of ‘Pay it Forward’

The Rotary Club of Saugeen Shores that always pays it forward to the community was recently on the receiving end when the Olive Oil Co. of Southampton donated as part of its own ‘Pay it Forward’ initiative.

  (L) Rotary President Pat O’Connor and Rotarian Janet King receive a cheque for                                                 $319 from owner Donna Rudell

During the month of December leading up to Christmas Day, each day was a fundraiser for a local charity.  A random flavour would be chosen and the entire proceeds of each bottle purchased that day then went to that day’s charity.

“We had over 17 charities this past ‘Pay it Forward’,” say owners Donna and Dave Rudell, “and this past year in particular charities have been struggling in their fundraising efforts not being able to hold events.”

Some of the charities that have benefitted from ‘Pay it Forward’ are PRANCE therapeutic riding, Chapman House and Huron Shores Hospices, Liv A Little Foundation and Marine Heritage Society.  “We’ve also supported Hampton Court seniors’ home as my mother was there,” said Dave Rudell, “as well as donating $35,000 to ALS over 10 years as I lost a friend to the disease.”

In the past two years, the company has donated over $16,000.
