It was ‘glitz, glam and gangsters’ at the Rotary Club of Southampton’s Roaring 20s Speakeasy dinner auction held at Powerlink in Port Elgin on Saturday (Sept. 27th).

To get in however, in true ‘bootlegger’ style, you had to get past ‘Maria and Tony’, give a ‘secret password’ and, only then, would ‘Maria’ take you on an elevator ride to the Speakeasy on the top floor.
Stepping off the elevator the ‘glitz’ was everywhere with sequin ‘flapper’ dresses and flutes of champagne as Roaring Twenties music played in the background.

The evening, while fun, was all about raising funds for Rotary Projects with a silent auction and the special fund-a-need ‘Light up the Pitch Appeal’ for Helliwell Park.
“Our Speakeasy Bootleggers & Benefactors Dinner Auction & Dance was the bee’s knees!” said organizing Co-Chair Sylvia Sheard. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, business donors, sponsors, and guests, together we raised over $50,000 in support of Rotary projects including $29,000 for the Light Up the Pitch Appeal for Helliwell Park in Southampton.”
