The final number is in for funds raised in Saugeen Shores for the 2024 annual Terry Fox run.
“It’s amazing,” said organizer Geordie Farrell. “Saugeen Shores community, including our five schools – École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School, G.C. Huston Public School, Northport Elementary School, Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS), and St. Joseph Catholic School, raised a whopping $46,656.97. This amount is over $11,000 more than we raised in 2023!!
According to Farrell, the four elementary schools alone raised over $11,000.
The grand total for Funds raised in Saugeen Shores since the start of the Terry Fox Run is $506,936.92 (unofficially).
“We so appreciate the community’s support over the years in the annual Terry Fox Run and the funds raised for cancer research,” added Farrell.
She also points out that next year will be a very special one. “Bill Vigars (Terry’s wingman) is scheduled to be our special guest. He will be traveling from B.C. to spent a few days with us and in his words “raise some money for Terry”.”
Vigars has written a book of his relationship with Terry Fox … ‘Terry & Me The Inside Story of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope‘ that “gives a fresh, insightful portrait of one of the greatest Canadians who ever lived”.
