“Last Saturday, there was a big picnic at Lakeview Park in Port Elgin, at which there was a large gathering from the district. Major Tolmie of Windsor, an old Southampton boy, gave a splendid address.
Alex McCannelo of Saugeen Tp. made the presentations of beautiful gold watches to all returned soldiers, and to the mothers or other relatives of all the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice. The watches bore the monogram of the soldier on the outside case and an inscription on the inside case. The address in connection with the presentations was made by Mr. F. Elliott, the township clerk.
