Several break and enters in seasonal residences result in charges

 

On December 20, 2023, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter to a seasonal residence on 17th Street South, Saugeen First Nation. The OPP canvassed other properties in the area and located two more seasonal residences which had been entered on 4th Avenue South, Saugeen First Nation.

On December 21, 2023, the Grey Bruce OPP responded to two more break and enters to seasonal residences on 17th Street South, Saugeen First Nation.

As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old male of South Bruce Peninsula has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence X5
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Possession break-in instruments
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held in custody for the purpose of attending a bail hearing.

The OPP encourages seasonal property owners to have someone check their property daily during the “off season” to ensure everything is secure. This tried and tested method is the best deterrent against crime.

The OPP continues to appeal to persons living in and around cottages to report all suspicious activity to police when it happens.

OPP investigating fatal collision in Springmount

On December 23, 2023, at approximately 5:41 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision in Springmount (Highway 6). Initial reports indicated that a motor vehicle and a pedestrian had collided, and the pedestrian had suffered serious injuries.

OPP along with Grey County Paramedic Services and the Intertownship Fire Department responded. A 47-year-old individual from South Bruce Peninsula was transported to Brightshores Health System where they were pronounced deceased.

Highway 6 North from Springmount to Grey Road 17 remained closed while Reconstructionists from the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team investigated but has since re-opened. The investigation is still ongoing.
