Lake Huron continues to show her power when, during high water levels, the area at the foot of High Street in Southampton known as Dominion Lookout, is now showing signs of severe deterioration.
Saugeen Shores town staff will begin repairs and improvements to the area this Spring, beginning in late March or early April.
The area is also home to the ‘giant Canadian flag‘ that flies during the summer months (weather permitting) and that has become an iconic site in Southampton.
Council has approved repairs and improvements for shore protections adjacent to the park on the west end of Millard Boulevard.
Crews will repair the erosion damage caused by repeated high water and wave action. The work will include repairing and stabilizing the shore protection, as well as re-laying brickworks and landscaping adjacent to the flag. The estimated time for this rejuvenating work is approximately six weeks.
The work will require restricting and/or removing vehicle, bike and pedestrian access as well as parking during the course of construction. The area is closed and restricted to access until approximately May 15, 2024.
