Under the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), the company is drilling through the pavement in the harbour to take environmental soil sampling and inserting wells for future water sampling.

There will be four areas drilled at intervals along the harbour as instructions to the company by DFO determined that, at the time the pier was developed, imported fill was used and also the fact that there had, at one time, been a sawmill at the harbour.

“I’m a driller full time with the company,” said Paige Storey, from the Peterborough area.  “Even though I had no experience, the company took a chance and hired me and I love it.”  Storey is also a part-time firefighter.
