Southampton Rotary Annual Dinner and Auction a resounding success

    Auctioneer Bill Walker

Southampton Rotary held its 19th Annual Dinner at the Walker House last weekend after a two-year COVID-19 enforced break. The capacity crowd enjoyed a sumptuous three course dinner and were entertained by guest auctioneer, Bill Walker, former MPP and now President and CEO of the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI).

Sylvia Sheard, the Auction Co-Chair said, “Everyone enjoyed being back together at the Walker House, and our Auctioneer, had fun with the guests and encouraged them to open their wallets to support Rotary Causes and our pledge to provide a replacement horse for PRANCE.”

Sheard went on to say that, “The net proceeds for the evening were in excess of $42,000. The Fund a Need component alone raised $10,000 and Bruce Power generously agreed to match it with a donation of $10,000 so that, instead of acquiring one horse for PRANCE, we may be able to purchase a second one.”

Jenny Amy, President said “We could not have done this without the generous support of our guests, donors and local businesses and organizations who all gave so willingly.

We were particularly grateful to our signature sponsor, The Saugeen Team from Century 21 In Studio Reality who provided a Bubbles Sparkling Wine Reception and a delightful Champagne Gift Basket. Remember to Shop Local.”

About PRANCE (Pegasus Riding Association Nurturing Challenged Equestrians)

The PRANCE riding facility in Port Elgin was established in 1993 and provides an amazing service to people with physical, developmental, and emotional challenges through their interaction with horses.

They run two ten-week therapeutic riding programs each spring and fall for riders with disabilities from age 5 to 105!

The equine facilitated wellness (EFW) program involves groundwork learning experiences facilitated by a mental health professional and equine specialist. The program has been shown to be effective for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief.

Like all organizations, they have not been able to hold fundraising events during the pandemic and need financial assistance to purchase a horse and provide equipment. For more details about PRANCE CLICK HERE
