Special Olympic athletes receive donation for volunteerism

The athletes of Saugeen Shores Special Olympics were feeling the love on Sunday, October 26th (2025).

Several athletes and coaches attended St. John’s Anglican Church in Port Elgin where they were treated to a delightful lunch and welcomed by members of the congregation.  St. John’s Port Elgin and St. Paul’s Anglican Church of Southampton and Christ Church in Tara, each year hold the annual Saugeen Shores Antique, Vintage and Collectables Show during the summer, where some of our athletes and coaches volunteer.

A donation of $1,000 from the proceeds of the show were presented to Special Olympics coach Cheryl Smethurst and the athletes.

St. John’s, St. Paul’s and Christ Church have been long time supporters of Saugeen Shores Special Olympics. “We are so very grateful for their generous past and present donations. This donation will be used to support our sports programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities,” said coach Smethurst.
