Tankard Update: Draw 9 an exercise in curling expertise

For anyone who enjoys watching curling, Draw 9 of the Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Ontario Tankard presented by Bruce Power was a game to watch on Saturday afternoon.

The game was an exercise in curling techniques and experience and an amazing game of back and forth.

Team Howard and Team Epping were well matched as they evened the score throughout the ends.  From 2-2, to 3-3, 5-5 and then 6-6, each team took the lead by a narrow margin.

In the 9th end, Howard had to make a choice – blank the end or go ahead, he chose to go ahead with play and gave up one rock to Epping in order to have the ‘hammer’ going into the 10th end.

At the 10th and final end Howard was down 7-6 and there were 11 rocks in play with no out-of-play rocks, a very rare occurrence.  In the end, Howard won by his two rocks with a narrow score of 8-7.

Team Epping now goes to the semi-final on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. and Team Howard goes directly to the final in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Draw 10 set for Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. will see Team Camm and Team Mooibroek facing off.  The winner advances to the semi-final on Sunday morning against Team Epping. The losing team is eliminated.

The Championship final is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday when Team Howard takes on the semi-final winner Team Camm.

Tickets are sold out for the event, however you can still enjoy the action live at www.curlontv.ca.
