Teachers hold protest in Owen Sound over Ford government education changes

Union members gathered in Owen Sound in front of MPP Bill Walker’s office in a peaceful protest over the proposed education changes by the Ford government.

Representatives from several unions, including the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO), the Bluewater Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) and Grey Bruce Labour Council among others attended the rally on Friday at noon.

ETFO represents elementary teachers and elementary occasional teachers in Bluewater and the OSSTF represents secondary teachers, secondary occasional teachers, ed assistants, early childhood educators, office professionals, IT staff, and professional student services personnel, such as psychologists and speech pathologists.

Grey Bruce Labour Council representatives, including President Kevin Smith (2nd R) attended
Sam Hammond, provincial president of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario also attended the rally and drew references to previous governments including those under Conservative Mike Harris and Liberal Dalton McGuinty.
