The 20th Annual Rotary Winterama is almost here!

Russ Cavanagh, Chair of the 2022 Rotary Winterama Committee, explains, “Last year proved that Winterama could successfully continue through the COVID pandemic by encouraging schools, students and youth groups to get out, be active, have fun and raise funds for youth projects.

New for 2022, 100% of the pledge money raised by students will go to their own school nutrition programs or school or youth group projects.

This year, Rotary is also introducing the Rotary Winterama Olympic Challenge. Students are encouraged to participate in activities at school, on their own or both during the global Winter Olympics from February 4th to February 20th.

Olympic medals will be handed out to students who achieve set distances in skating, snowshoeing, skiing, walking or running, etc. We will also award prizes to top classroom participation. Cash awards will be presented to the top three students raising the most pledge money.”

Winterama will run for the entire month of February.

Students and youth groups wishing to participate can register at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/Rotary/p2p/Winterama_2022/. Those interested in making a general donation to Winterama or supporting the local school or youth group of their choice can go to the same website.

Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

Participating students will have their own Winterama fundraising page although the traditional paper pledge forms will still be available. Students and youth group participants, with direction from their parents, are asked to email pledge requests to family and friends. Those interested will be directed by a link to their own personal fundraising page to make a donation and receive a receipt by email. Students will keep track of their activities and hand in an activity record to their teacher.

Rotary would like to thank the local businesses and individuals for their sponsorship that is used to pay for any expenses. The balance will go to the organizing Rotary Clubs of Tara and Southampton to support youth programs in Grey Bruce.
