Southampton’s Sunset Piper returns this evening, Friday, June 12th. Professor of Nursing, Michael Smith, has performed at the Dominion Lookout in Southampton for over 20 years.
Over the years, this event has garnered local support from the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce, the community and summer visitors and has become a regular attraction from June through to September each Friday night.
Due to construction from the Cenotaph at Huron Street this year restricting the access to Dominion Lookout, the location at the flag (Dominion Lookout) is being changed for the three Fridays in June (12, 19, 26) to the scenic lookout at Pioneer Park at the mouth of the Saugeen River on Front Street.
Smith will begin his piping down of the sun 45 minutes prior to dusk at the historic cannons looking out over Lake Huron, until the sun appears to melt into the lake at the horizon behind Chantry Lighthouse.
The event has local weekly sponsors, including the local historic Walker House, Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce and, tonight’s June 12th sponsor, the Southampton Rotary Club, whose members will be there serving up their fresh and hot popcorn.
