What began as a simple Plowing Match 107 years ago has evolved to become the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM), one of the largest agricultural and rural events in North America. Bruce County has hosted the event four times and, this year 2026, celebrates its 50th Anniversary at the Lang farm in Walkerton where it was first hosted in 1976.
The event has many sponsors throughout Bruce County and surrounding areas, including major sponsors Bruce Power, Ontario Plowmen’s Association, Municipality of Brockton, Hydro One, the Ontario Government and many more.
As the day began on Tuesday, September 22nd, crowds of people lined the parade route where many dignitaries took part in the celebration, including Ontario Premier Rob Ford and his Minister of Rural Affairs, MPP of Huron-Bruce Lisa Thompson, MP Ben Lobb Huron-Bruce, along with the Warden of Bruce County and Mayor of Saugeen Shores, Luke Charbonneau and Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody. Hundreds then gathered in the Britespan tent to listen to entertainment and hear the speakers.
It is anticipated that approximately 100,000 visitors will attend the five-day event, coming from across Ontario and throughout Canada, the U.S. and beyond. There is something for every age over the five days from live entertainment, plowing competitions, hundreds of vendors and exhibitors to foods of all kinds. From the Canadian Cowgirls award-winning drill team to the Canadian Lumberjack Show, to the RAM Rodeo and Farmall Dancing Tractors, the entertainment is exciting.
