Time to put a little laughter into your summer with Bruce County Playhouse – three live comedies coming to Southampton

June is here and Hot Summer Nights are just around the corner with the Bruce County Playhouse bringing three professional live theatre comedies to town.

There’s an old saying that “variety is the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavour’ and ‘laughter is the best medicine’  This summer’s line-up of comedy variety by Bruce County Playhouse is sure to add both.

The theatre season begins with the popular Opening Night Gala.

First on stage is The Beaver Club running from June 26th to July 12th.

A hilarious story about four distinctly different women in their sixties who head off on a hilarity-filled road trip from Toronto to Dildo, Newfoundland. Significant travel time together affords them plenty of opportunity to compare their pasts, presents and futures. Through a variety of madcap adventures, shared secrets emerge, forging bonds and new beginnings. The members of the Beaver Club demonstrate for us all how we can overcome anything with a little help from our friends.

Next up from July 24th to August 9th is Naked Radio – the Musical.

Bought out by a large corporation, the local radio station loses its human connection when its popular DJs are replaced by a “tech-savvy” pre-programmed, “soulless, sterile silver box”. But when the box “inexplicably” loses its feed and a powerful blizzard descends on the entire county, the two DJs are swept back into service. Knowing that “dead air” is something they cannot afford, the two DJs, along with their trusted station manager, must improvise hours of on-air entertainment with live music, stories and song, as they contend with a host of wacky call-in characters. This hilarious musical reminds us all, of the importance of human connection, all the while sharing an uproarious behind the scenes look at what it takes to provide an entertaining lineup of spontaneous and joyful programming.

The final show of the summer from August 14th to the 23rd is the ‘Leave It To Cleavage’  comedy cocktail, somewhat by design, somewhat by improv, occasionally irreverent but always accompanied with a side of laughter! These ladies hark back to the 1950’s when women knew their place and had their role all figured out. Recognizing how times have changed, two effervescent 1950s housewives take suggestions from the audience to help them re-write their “Helpful Housewife Tips”. They re-create a “Day in the Life” of a woman from the audience who has both a family and (breathe deeply, clutch pearls!) a job! All this and more as we unwind the secrets to successful relationships.
