The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) presented a cheque for $1.1 million dollars to Grey Bruce Health Service (GBHS) CEO Gary Sims today, February 16th, as the first instalment toward the $3 million needed to bring a CT scanner to the hospital in Saugeen Shores.
The hospital foundation’s “Bring TOM To Town” fundraising campaign for a new Computed TOMography (CT) scanner was launched on October 20th and has had tremendous support from both businesses and residents in the area.
“Thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported this critical community project to date,” said Stacey Catalano, SMHF Board Chair. “We have seen such amazing support from people all across Saugeen Shores and surrounding communities as well as those who may live elsewhere through the year but spend their summers in Southampton and Port Elgin. We are so appreciative for all the people, businesses and summer residents who have joined in the effort to help make a CT scanner a reality in Saugeen Shores.”
To date, almost $2.2 million has been raised in donations and pledges toward the $3 million goal. $100,000 of this amount came from a disbursement from the Foundation’s Endowment Fund which was initially founded several years ago to ensure that donors who designated funds to the endowment would have their donation invested for perpetuity and the resulting interest/growth would be disbursed on a regular basis to fund future equipment purchases.
