Town advocates for local priorities at ROMA

Representatives from the Town of Saugeen Shores are currently in Toronto, attending the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference and meeting with provincial leaders on several key priorities for the municipality.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau, Councillor Dave Myette, Chief Administrative Officer Kara Van Myall and Manager of Strategic Initiatives Jill Roote will present briefs to three provincial ministries during the conference which runs from January 19 to January 21, 2025.

  • The Ministry of Sport to highlight the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre’s value and invite provincial partnership in support of this significant regional development.
  • The Ministry of Health to reiterate the need for expanded primary care services in the community.
  • The Ministry of Infrastructure to address the reduction in Ontario Community Infrastructure Funding (OCIF) and the resulting impact.

“On top of the conference agenda, the ROMA conference offers a vital platform to address the needs of our growing community,” said Mayor Charbonneau “It’s an invaluable opportunity to meet face-to-face with provincial ministries, ensuring that the unique challenges and opportunities in our town are recognized and supported at the provincial level.”

ROMA is the rural voice of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). This year’s conference theme is ROMA 2025: Rural Routes. Key presenters include Ontario Premier Doug Ford, opposition leaders, and provincial ministers.
