Volunteer firefighters respond within minutes

Sunday is no day off for volunteer firefighters … when they receive the call, they spring into action.

On Sunday morning, August 11th, they received a call of a possible boat fire in Southampton.

Within minutes, the ‘zodiac’ rescue craft was launched in to the Saugeen River and a second fire rescue truck was dispatched to Southampton Harbour.

Fortunately, the incident was a false alarm.  It was suspected that a private boater called in the report after seeing one of the local fishing tug boats expelling smoke (due to its diesel-burning fuel).
