What happens when objectivity of science is ignored says reader

To the Editor:

I remember previous arguments against a local DGR centred around the SRA – Southampton Residents Association.

They took local fears to a new emotional level by forming a political front, promoting someone to run as Councillor.  Signage was everywhere.  “STOP THE DUMP”.

Personally, I had to resign as a Director of the SRA.

There was little the NWMO could do on the education and science behind the Safety.
Locals, who get the benefits of Bruce Power in our Community, became part of a divisive campaign.
That is Southampton’s history, and in my mind, is regrettable, given the climate change fight we are all in.
The past is the past, but it is a lesson of what can happen when objectivity of science is ignored.
