This weekend, August 24th – 26th is ‘big ball playing’ weekend in Saugeen Shores.
With 47 teams of men and women players, the weekend is shaping up to be a big one when it comes to ball playing for both the players and spectators when almost 1,000 players and families will land in Saugeen Shores.
The Wismer House in Port Elgin is also stepping up to the plate. Jeff Carver, Wismer House owner, says that he wanted to do something that would be meaningful for the hospital.
The Wismer House is going to donate $5 for every home run hit (up to $1500) in all women’s and men’s play off ball games.
“We wanted to do something to help out our local hospital,” says Carver, “and we hope this will become an annual fundraiser for local health care. Next year, we are going to challenge other businesses and sponsors to come on board.”
Carver made the move to support the hospital following an episode with his young daughter, Reese. “We are so thankful that we have this health care close to home,” says Carver. “Reese was suddenly not well and the staff at Southampton hospital immediately recognized there was a serious problem and transported her to London. I can’t even think of what would have happened if we didn’t have this local hospital.”
Everyone is encouraged to come out and take in a game over the weekend at one of the several ball diamonds in Saugeen Shores.
