Year-end construction values up 33% over 2018 in Saugeen Shores

Town staff will present 2019’s year-end construction numbers at tonight’s Committee of Whole meeting. In 2019, Saugeen Shores saw a record $128 million in construction value, which represents an increase of 33% from 2018. This total includes residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and other new builds, renovations, additions and demolitions.

Commercial construction value in the community was more than eight times higher last year than in 2018, increasing from $2.15 million to $18.2. And 132 new residential units were created in 2019 with a value of more than $69 million.

“We announced late last year that Saugeen Shores was on track to reach a new milestone in construction value,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “This year-end total of $128 million is a testament to our community’s growth—positive growth that allows us to continue investing in the future while also improving the quality of life of our residents.”
