Zest for life keeps this Southampton Grande Dame going

On a bright, sunny winter day, they came in vehicles and they came on foot, all to wish Southampton’s Jane Kramer a happy birthday on February 26th (2021).

Jane’s zest for life keeps her busy volunteering in several organizers including Women’s Probus, Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, the Chantry Senior Centre, the Marine Heritage Society and Propeller Club.

“This is just amazing,” said Jane, “but just wait for the big 90 next year – we are going to have a ‘hellava’ party!”

As a volunteer tour guide to Chantry Island Lighthouse with the Marine Heritage Society on the boat the Peerless, Jane tells passengers about the early history of the lighthouse keepers and her own early life as a lifeguard and swimming instructor on Southampton’s beach.

Jane’s astrology sign is Pisces (two fish) and, as a Pisces, her element is water so it may be no coincidence that she was a swimming instructor and as a teenager often swam back from Chantry Island after rowing the lighthouse keeper home.

People under the sign of Pisces are selfless, spiritual, and very focused on their inner journey.   As part of her selfless volunteering, Jane was recently recognized with the Municipal Heritage Award.
