41st Super Spiel returns to Port Elgin

The Port Elgin Curling Club is all set to celebrate the 41st  Super Spiel, part of the Stu Sells Tour and the men’s Ontario Curling Tour.

It is an event in which men’s teams can earn points towards qualifying for the Ontario Tankard and has been attended by local teams, world champions and teams from other parts of the world. Many of the teams already signed up for this year participated in the Ontario Tankard that Saugeen Shores hosted the past two years and are currently among the top 20 curling teams in Canada;

Team Kean – Ottawa, past finalist at Super Spiel, appeared in the 2022 Ontario Tankard

Team Ferris – Grimsby, 2021 Super Spiel Champ, has competed in nine Ontario Tankard Provincial Championships

Team Fournier – former Quebec Provincial Champ, now playing out of Toronto and part of the 2023 Ontario Tankard.

Team Champ – curling out of Kitchener/Waterloo, winner of the 40th Super Spiel and competed in the 2023 Ontario Tankard

New this year is a Senior Super Spiel Event. This is an open event. Already registered, Team Froud, who participated in the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, won the 2023 Ontario Senior Women’s Championship and is representing Ontario at the Canadian Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Vernon BC in December.

The excitement begins on Friday, November 17th at 9:30 a.m. and runs through to the final on Sunday, November 19th.  Spectators are welcome and admission is free.

In addition, a number of teams are returning, including Team Deruelle from Harriston, Team Levy from Detroit and, of course, last year’s winner, Team Champ from Kitchener/Waterloo.

The 16 teams will vie for $16,000 in prizes and each team has three guaranteed games.
