44th annual Terry Fox Marathon of Hope about to begin

“I want to set an example that will never be forgotten.” Terry Fox

With less than two weeks to go, the Fall tradition begins with the 44th Annual Terry Fox, and local residents of Saugeen Shores are getting ready to tie up their shoes and head out to raise money for cancer research.

Whether walking or running, riding a bike, roller blading, or pushing a scooter, everyone is welcome to participate in Terry’s legacy!

Register the day of the event, or online at terryfox.org

DETAILS: Meet at the Lions’ Pavilion at Northshore Park in Port Elgin
12:00 p.m. – Registration (or if you registered online, please check in!)
1:00 p.m. – Opening ceremonies, start of event- 2k, 5k or 10K- you decide!

Terry Fox t- shirts will also be available for purchase on-site.

From the start banner at the Pavilion, the course heads north toward Southampton along the scenic paved Lake Huron shore trail. The halfway mark is north of the 10th Concession for those participating in the 5k.

For those going the full 10k, the halfway mark is just south of Bay Street in Southampton. Marshals will be along the course.

Once again Holly Vanderzwet of Fitness Corner South will get everyone ready to go with her special warm-up activity, and is also providing the post-event snacks, so plan to stay afterward to mingle and meet with friends.

Don’t forget to bring your cameras. This year you can once again get a photo taken beside the life-sized poster of Terry Fox!

Last year, 2023, the community of Saugeen Shores raised a whopping $24,700 for cancer research, and that didn’t include the funds raised by local schools! In addition, over 500 residents from Saugeen Shores pitched in to help by volunteering, pledging or participating in the Terry Fox Run.

Join us at Northshore Park on Sunday, September 15th. Let’s ensure that Terry Fox’s legacy lives on and is more than just a run … but remains a ‘Marathon of Hope’.

EVERYONE is welcome…all ages, all abilities.
