Despite the weatherman who predicted showers, the day turned out to be ideal for the Rotary Club of Saugeen Shores Golf Classic held at Saugeen Golf Club on Friday, June 12th (2026).
Organizer Ed Braun said, “It’s the first time we’ve had the event here at Saugeen and, according to the golfers, the course is in great shape.”

This year’s Classic had a major prize for two golfers who achieved a hole-in-one, a trip to the Master’s Golf Tournament in Georgia that included a private home for accommodation. Unfortunately, no-one won.
Among the live auction prizes were a Weber BBQ, Napolean BBQ, Rotary BBQ for 30 people, homemade pies, Saugeen package of golf for four including accommodation at the Holiday Inn + dinner at Boston Pizza, and a trip to the Phoenix Open.

Dinner followed the day out on the links, along with both a silent and live auction by auctioneer Pat O’Connor, who called on former MPP Bill Walker, who is also an auctioneer, to temporarily take over the auction, raising $200 for a decadently delicious pie.
“We couldn’t have hosted today’s event without the many sponsors,” said emcee Pat O’Connor, “including Barry’s Construction (major sponsor), Dale’s Carpentry, K&K Lawn Care, Johnston Realty, Circle K, Martin’s Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, Bruce Power Independent Grocer and more. They are all community-minded donors that enhance ou quality of life in Saugeen Shores.”
A final total raised has yet to be determined however, proceeds will go to the Lamont Sports Park accessible playground and the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre walking track in Port Elgin.
