Bruce County continues to invest in Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores)

Bruce County has purchased 1233 MacKenzie Road in Port Elgin, the property next to the County’s Lakeshore Hub and Paramedic Services Headquarters.

The property includes a 6,000 square foot building. Its location and size provide flexibility to support a range of future uses, including opportunities that respond to evolving community needs.

“When this property became available, it presented an opportunity to enable future enhancements to the County’s existing facilities,” said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau. “This acquisition ensures we have the space and flexibility to support growth while continuing to explore opportunities that benefit the community and strengthen services for residents.”

The property, formally home to Huron Shores Gymnastics Club, will allow the County to build on its existing investments in the Lakeshore Hub area and to consider how the site can complement nearby uses over the long term.

“I’ve greatly enjoyed my many years of coaching and running the Gymnastics club in Saugeen Shores,” said John Craig, owner and head coach. “I’m grateful for the support from the community and proud of the experiences we’ve created together. As I move into my next chapter, I’m confident this property will continue to serve the community in new and meaningful ways.”

Bruce County Council authorized completion of the purchase at their June 18, 2026, meeting. Following closing of the sale, Bruce County will assume responsibility for the property and begin assessment of potential uses as part of its broader facilities and service planning.
