Approaching Remembrance Day, the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre welcomes back acclaimed author Tim Cook, who will shed light on Canada’s significant contributions during the Invasion of Sicily in World War II.
This compelling talk, scheduled for Thursday, November 2nd at 1:00 PM, will delve into the often-overlooked role that Canadian forces played in this historic campaign, which marks it’s 80th anniversary this year.
During the Invasion of Sicily, which took place from July 9th to August 17th, 1943, Canadian troops made significant contributions alongside their Allied counterparts. Tim Cook will explore the challenges they faced, the sacrifices they made, and the impact they had on the overall success of the campaign. The presentation will include rare photographs and historical context, offering a comprehensive view of this crucial chapter in Canadian military history.
This event provides a unique opportunity for visitors to gain insights into the untold stories of courage and resilience displayed by Canadian servicemen and women during World War II.
About Tim Cook: Tim Cook is Chief Historian and Director of Research at the Canadian War Museum. His best-selling books have won multiple awards, including three Ottawa Book prizes for Literary Non-Fiction and two C.P. Stacey Awards for the best book in Canadian military history. In 2008 he won the J.W. Dafoe Prize for At the Sharp End and again in 2018 for Vimy: The Battle and the Legend. Shock Troops won the 2009 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction. Cook is a frequent commentator in the media, and a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the Order of Canada. Lifesavers and Body Snatchers: Medical Care and the Struggle for Survival in the Great War is his latest work.
