Annual PRANCE Garage Sale raises funds for programs

From glassware to garden tools, basketballs to books, there was something for everyone at the annual PRANCE Garage Sale on Saturday, August 3rd.

  (L) Volunteer Joan Dackert Triller and PRANCE Exec.          Director Anne-Marie Johnston accepted donationsThe sale is an annual fundraiser for PRANCE, the equestrian therapeutic riding centre where programs have been developed for those individuals with physical, emotional and/or intellectual limitations or disabilities. for those with disabilities.

 

“PRANCE contributes to enriching your own or a loved one’s life by becoming a client, volunteer, donor or promoter of PRANCE.”  Volunteer, Joan Dackert and her husband also support the upkeep of one of the horses through the Horse Sponsorship Program.  The cost is $230.00 per month and this includes the horse for personal use, tack for the horse, and use of the facility and trails.

PRANCE also welcomes those wanting to volunteer.  The commitment is helping out for one morning, afternoon or evening per week. It is a 1-2 hour commitment once a week for ten weeks and the requirements are:

  • A respect of horses; a liking for people; comfortable helping people with disabilities; generally good physical condition (there is some running involved in some, but not all classes).
  • Willingness to learn and follow PRANCE safety procedures.
  • Willingness to attend continuing volunteer education opportunities.
