Another action-packed weekend for Saugeen Shores U10 Girls Sting

It was another action packed weekend for the U10 Girls Underwood Financial Saugeen Shores Sting team as they hosted the Stratford Flames Saturday morning, July 17th, for their first official provincial Bracket game at Jubilee Park in Southampton.

Spirits were high as the first inning started and Brooke Lamont took to the mound with Janey Harris catching. The girls started off strong with two strike-outs and a runner thrown out at first to end the top of the first inning with the Stratford Flames only earning one run. Thanks to some patience at the plate, the Sting girls were equally able to pick up a run to finish off the first inning with one run each.

Unfortunately, the second inning proved to be the Sting girls’ undoing as the Stratford Flames produced some big hits and scored nine runs. Despite their best efforts and some notable hits by Isla Beith and Elliana Cameron, the girls lost to the Stratford Flames with a score of 16-8.

After a short break, the young Sting team was at it again with an exhibition game versus the LaSalle Athletics. Despite the heat, the girls gave it their all with some great pitching from Peyton Myatt who garnered two strike-outs, Brynlie Wilcox with one strike-out, Lane Topham with two strike-outs and Olivia Clark who after walking the first batter, struck out three consecutive batters to end the game.

There was just as much excitement at the plate for the Sting players with a great double hit by Lundyn Carr and a grand slam home run by Brynlie Wilcox. Even with the exceptional pitching and hitting, the LaSalle Athletics managed to snag the win with a final score of 13-11.

The following morning, the Saugeen Shores Sting and LaSalle Athletics met again for a second exhibition game. The top of the game didn’t look good for the young Sting team as the LaSalle pitcher managed to strike out the first three batters but as our Sting team took to the field with Brooke Lamont pitching, the girls managed to hold the Athletics to only two runs to end the first inning.

The excitement continued as the Sting girls rallied and the innings progressed with exceptional pitching from Elliana Cameron with three strike-outs, Peyton Myatt garnering three strike-outs and Olivia Clark two strike-outs and some great hits by Peyton Myatt, Maelle Wiles and Janey Harris.

It was another nail biter as the girls were up heading into the last inning. Unfortunately, the LaSalle Athletics were able to come back for another win and a final score of 12-10.

Despite the losses over the weekend, it was wonderful to see the improvement and the dedication these young girls have from game to game. The excitement continues next weekend as the U10 Saugeen Shores Sting host Milton for their second provincial Bracket game on Saturday, July 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Jubilee Park in Southampton.
