The Retooling and Economic Recovery Council (RERC), established by Bruce Power and its supply chain partners in the nuclear industry is offering to assist Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution program.
In a letter to retired General Rick Hiller, the recently named Chair of the province’s COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force, RERC co-chairs James Scongack and Richard Horrobin, indicated that its members are prepared to provide services or support to the task force.
“Our members have expertise in a number of the areas of focus for the Task Force, 
including project management, logistics, worker safety procedures and practices, advanced manufacturing and a depth of technical competences that could be leveraged to manage any range of issues or challenges,” said Horrobin, Bruce Power’s Vice President & Managing Director, Supply Chain, Performance Assurance.
Since launching in April to assist in the fight against COVID-19, the RERC has focused on the continued retooling of the nuclear supply chain to meet front-line needs, the development of ventilators, retooling for the production of personal protective equipment, and rapid distribution of PPE from the private sector. The council has also contributed to economic recovery efforts in the short, medium and long term.
“The RERC will also be providing later this week a catalogue of supply chain organizations to General Hillier and the Task Force that they can call on for specific support,” said Scongack, Bruce Power’s Executive Vice-President of Corporate Affairs and Operational Services. “This will be one of the most significant public-health and vaccine distribution efforts in a generation, and we believe the nuclear industry can assist in getting these vaccines to Ontarians safely and quickly once they’re ready to be distributed.” A full copy of the letter is available here.
