Mike Rencheck, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bruce Power, has been named to the Board of Directors for the Nuclear Energy Institute, the unified voice of the nuclear industry on policy and technical issues in the United States.
Rencheck, who joined Bruce Power in 2016, becomes a member of an NEI board that includes representatives from 20 nuclear utilities, major nuclear suppliers, advanced nuclear technology companies and other segments of NEI membership. The organization’s mission is to promote the use and growth of nuclear energy through efficient operations and effective policy.
“I’m extremely pleased to be joining the Board of the NEI to bring Canada’s perspective to the table at an important time in the nuclear industry,” said Rencheck. “Alignment between Canada and the US is more important than ever as we work to tell our incredible story. Carbon-free, nuclear energy powers homes, schools and hospitals around the clock, 365 days a year, creates economic opportunities for good-paying jobs, and produces medical isotopes that save people’s lives. It’s a vital part of our clean energy and CO2-free future.”
Rencheck has extensive experience in the nuclear industry over the past 36 years. Prior to joining Bruce Power, he served as the Deputy Chief Operating Officer for AREVA Group, overseeing its extensive global capital portfolio of nuclear and renewable projects. Previously, he was President and CEO of AREVA Inc. in North America, leading its diverse nuclear manufacturing and services business in Canada and the United States with a workforce of about 5,000 people.
“I am pleased Mike has joined NEI’s Board of Directors,” said Maria Korsnick, President and Chief Executive Officer of NEI. “I am confident Mike’s tremendous experience will provide guidance and leadership to NEI on business and policy affairs for the industry. His tenure aligns the shared interests of the U.S. and Canadian nuclear industries and further positions NEI to be a global voice for the industry.”
In 2014, Mike was recognized by the National Safety Council for his leadership demonstrating a personal commitment to worker safety and health as part of “CEOs who get it.” He was
designated by the U.S. Department of Energy as a STEM ambassador, and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority.
He also has demonstrated a commitment to many organizations that make a difference in people’s lives including Habitat for Humanity and the United Way. He is a Professional Engineer and certified senior reactor operator and currently serves on the Advisory Councils of several small modular reactor companies.
