Brucedale Press to launch new book by local author

The Brucedale Press will launch a new book, ‘Big Bay North Keppel – The Way It Was’, on Saturday, June 29. Lynne Porter has researched, written, and illustrated a chronicle of life in this Colpoy’s Bay community from early settlement up to the 1950s. The launch takes place at Edale in Big Bay from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.  A portion of sales proceeds will go to Wiarton Branch, Bruce County Public Library.

Lynne Porter is a lifelong resident of the area, born near Oxenden, and well known for her art, genealogical research, and background in small-town businesses. Her first book, OXENDEN The Way It Was, a 2017 release also from The Brucedale Press, portrayed twin villages that became one community.

‘Big Bay North Keppel – The Way It Was’ includes nearly 20 detailed drawings of schools, homes, a church, and a sawmill. Its pages also contain numerous photographs of long-ago residents, many with descendants still living in the area. Lynne says, “The community spirit here is great. People have shared precious photographs and told me fascinating stories.”

The quality softcover book of 108 pages will be available at the launch. Those who cannot attend are able to order from The Brucedale Press at www.brucedalepress.ca, or from independent booksellers in the area.
