September … summer ends and Fall begins and with it one of the biggest celebrations of music in Saugeen Shores – The Canadian Big Band weekend!
The weekend brings together music of all genres, whether just for listening or getting out on the dance floor, there’s an answer for every musical taste. Combine that with some of the most elite musicians that Canada and beyond has and it’s a weekend of non-stop music throughout venues across Saugeen Shores.
Now in its 30th year, the “Canadian Big Band Celebration” (CBBC) is an annual three-day festival celebrating the popular music once performed in the local Lake Huron Dance Pavilions of the 1920-80s which included The Embassy, Southampton; The Cedar Crescent Casino, Port Elgin; Sauble Beach Pavilion; Oliphant Pavilion and The Kincardine Beach Pavilion.
Over 50 community volunteers help with the CBBC and it’s supported financially by local business sponsors, Bruce Power, Heritage Canada and CBBC ticket sales. This year the CBBC has five main events.
- Friday Night Blues and Jazz Passport
- Friday Night Jazz Club
- Saturday Big Dance Afternoon Show
- Saturday Big Dance Evening Show
- Sunday Jazz Brunch
From Friday night Blues and Jazz at many venues throughout Saugeen Shores to Saturday’s big dance day at Lakeshore Recreation Centre, and winding up on Sunday with the Jazz Brunch at Southampton Golf & Country Club, it’s an entire weekend filled with music.
