Celebrating a volunteer’s 1,000 days of Habitat building

Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce is celebrating long-time volunteer Gary Varsava, who has volunteered for over 1000 Build Days with the organization.

Gary has worked on 63 Builds during his time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce. Further, Gary has given his time to help with renovating 4 Habitat ReStores and the head office in Springmount. Outside of his time with the local organization, Gary has also volunteered internationally with Habitat for Humanity Canada. His positive attitude and valuable experience are an asset to our Build team. Volunteers that have had the opportunity to work alongside Gary over the years have learned lots of valuable skills on-site from him as he willingly shares his knowledge and experience.

“All of us at Habitat Grey Bruce congratulate Gary for his extraordinary voluntary service with our affiliate over the past 24 years,” says Greg Fryer, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce. “In addition to his 1,000 days volunteering on our Build sites, he has also served on our Board of Directors including in the role of Treasurer. We greatly appreciate Gary and the huge contribution he has made building homes for families in need of affordable housing across Grey and Bruce Counties.”

Gary has made such a positive impact to Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce and for our community. Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce thanks Gary for all his hard work and dedication to the organization.  In tribute to Gary and his 1,000 Build Days, Habitat is hosting a luncheon at the James Mason Centre at Saugeen First Nation today, February 23rd.

About Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce:  People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and purchase their home with a no-down payment, no-interest mortgage with payments set at 25% of their income. Not only does this provide affordable housing for families in need, it also enables them to build assets, reduce their dependence on other forms of social assistance and contribute to the community through paying property taxes.

As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce has served 128 adults and 201 children since 1987. With our help, Habitat homeowners are given the opportunity to thrive, enabling them to build a better life for themselves and their children.
