Cham-bettes Christmas Home Tour 2024: The Sanchez-Jenkins Home

“Casa Blanca”

Six years ago, while searching for a home in Southampton, we came across a captivating Edwardian-style house built in 1905. It immediately stole our hearts. Originally owned by William O’Bright, a chair maker, the house boasts timeless details like the eaves return on its central pediment, a decorative round window, and a front portico.

Despite it being tired and in desperate need of revitalization, from the instant that we walked through the door, we knew it had to be ours. Seeing the house for its potential, we purchased it and began restoring it, bit by bit, making it the house of our dreams. Each year, we tackled a new project, doing the renovations with our own hands. Every piece of furniture and decoration was chosen with care, ensuring it honoured the home’s historic character. The kitchen was fully remodelled, blending the home’s vintage charm with modern functionality, thanks to the fortunate involvement of our family architects, who designed every detail with precision and care.

Outside, the environment added to the home’s allure. A majestic maple tree stands tall in the backyard, providing shade and a sense of serenity. We often find ourselves enjoying its presence during quiet afternoons. The side porch, which quickly became a favourite spot, transformed into a charming morning room. It’s the perfect space to enjoy breakfast and soak in the peaceful surroundings as the day begins.

The house, with its rich history and beautiful outdoor setting, has become more than a home – it’s a retreat where the past and present coexist in harmony.
