The Mann Home (South)
Homeowners: Micheline & Miguelle Mann, Sisters on Huron

A work in progress, sisters Micheline and Miguelle are happily sharing connected living spaces in a triplex of two-bedroom apartments. This is the house that thrift and ingenuity built.
Starting with a, years-too-early, unplanned purchase of an entire kitchen salvaged and resold at the Hanover ReStore, Micheline and Miguelle were inspired to put the horse before the cart. (In fact, perhaps one of you will recognize the cabinetry as the kitchen from which these cabinets came is somewhere in Southampton!) This prescient purchase deftly created the three kitchens the girls needed for a mere $2,000. Following the big win of the kitchen cabinets, other bonanza purchases quickly fell into place. Both pedestal dining tables were FB marketplace bargains, the stunning chandelier was $5 from the Salvation Army, and the vintage wallpaper on the fireplace wall was a true find: Graham & Brown Wall Coverings from the UK – $260/roll purchased for a total of $10. One other thrift item of note is the one-of-a-kind, electric mid-century lounger.
Though visitors will find that Miguelle’s cottage is still mostly in the before stage, Micheline’s house is a blend of maximalism, quirky installations, bold colours and kitschy touches. The commanding center-piece of the apartment is the two, 5ft tall, original, John Laughlin paintings from Grey Gallery in Owen Sound. Learning zero lessons, Micheline purchased these stunning paintings during Covid and long before she could provide them with a home some three years later.
Miguelle co-owns the beautiful and popular Riverside Yarns in Owen Sound and Micheline is currently providing overnight pet care and senior companion services with her business; FETCH Pet, Errand and Senior Services.
Check out Micheline’s original hooked rugs at mannmadestudios.com. Both girls are crafty and artistic and plan to fire up the glue guns again when the renovations are complete.
