Currently, dogs are allowed on all beaches during the off-season (October to May). Dogs are also currently allowed from May to October along the beach north of the Saugeen River in Southampton and from the Harbor in Port Elgin to approximately Concession 10 .
The Town will consult the public through an online information page created on the Town’s website. The webpage will have this information report and the updated mapping to allow the public to gain more information on the proposal. It will also contain a section where the public can submit their feedback on the proposal. The Town’s social media accounts will drive respondents to the website.
The public consultation phase will be open for two (2) weeks. Staff will then compile the information and present Council with a final report about whether to open certain beaches to dogs.
Restrictions on the beaches for dogs has always been an issue of top enforcement during the summer. It is anticipated that providing additional options for dog owners will help alleviate the number of complaints.
