Election 2026 unofficial nomination roster update

The clock is winding down to Election Day 2026 and, in Saugeen Shores, names are being added to the nomination roster.

Incumbent Diane Huber has now put her name forward for the position of Deputy Mayor while Councillor Dave Myette recently withdrew from the Election.

For the position of Vice-deputy Mayor, Councillor Bud Halpin has put his name forward as has Don Matheson.

As it stands today, August 7th, there are no nominations for Port Elgin Ward, with five nominations in Southampton Ward and three for Saugeen Ward.

Two nominations remain for the position of Mayor – incumbent Mayor Luke Charbonneau and Jeff James.

Nomination papers must be filed with the Municipal Clerk by 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026.

Requirements:
• Municipal Council candidates must submit Form 2 – Endorsement of Nomination
signed by at least 25 eligible voters.
• Candidates must be registered before spending money on their campaign or
accepting campaign contributions.
• A filing fee of $200 for Head of Council candidates and $100 for all other offices
is required when submitting nomination papers.
• Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to run for municipal office and
are encouraged to confirm their eligibility before filing nomination papers. For

Electors will be able to vote online or by telephone from Monday, October 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concluding on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.

A Voter Help Centre will be available at the Community Complex (The Plex) in Port Elgin throughout the voting period for assistance with internet voting.
