One of the largest and most exciting stone re-building projects ever undertaken in North America is still underway at Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) in Bruce County. When the project began, it was expected that it would take 10 years to complete and, when finished, the Amphitheatre will be a unique North American world class site.
The project also became a teaching program with several Saugeen First Nation men receiving various levels of certification in dry stone-walling techniques.

While Saugeen First Nation has made great strides, the project is still facing a significant funding shortfall — approximately $500,000. “It’s a big number, but with continued awareness and support from the community, I’m hopeful we’ll begin to close the gap,” says Brittany Roote, IBA Coordinator for Saugeen First Nation.
Two exciting FUNdraising events for this important initiative will be held.

Next is a Lawn Bowling Tournament on August 22nd, at the Lawn Bowling Club in Southampton.
The event is open to the public and includes dinner, a silent auction and 50/50 draw.
