End of a contentious issue as Anglican Manse is sold

According to a source, the former Anglican Manse on High Street overlooking Fairy Lake (Little Lake) in Southampton has been sold.

The former Manse has been a contentious issue in Southampton when it was proposed to be demolished to accommodate the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), and Bruce County Museum Archive expansion.

Following a lengthy court case, the judge in the case declared that the Manse owned by the County of Bruce was to be put up for sale with the restriction that it not be sold to any purchaser with connections to the County, the Town of Saugeen Shores or the nuclear industry.

The sale has concluded after four bids were received for the property, with the Manse being sold above the asking price of $749,000 to a Southampton property owner and investor for $859,000.

It is anticipated that the new owner will restore the property and, according to rumour, will operate it as a bed-and-breakfast.
