A recent fire on Bruce Road 40, south of Port Elgin, destroyed a family home. The call came in at approximately 10:30 a.m. last Thursday morning setting three Fire Services, Saugeen Shores, Paisley and Tiverton, into. motion.
Given the location, water was an issue and four tanker trucks were used – two from Saugeen Shores and one each from Tiverton and Paisley.
Despite 20 firefighters on-site, the structure given its age and, what is known as balloon construction, could not be saved.
“We are only thankful that no one was injured, including two males and dogs that were home at the time, along with no firefighters.” said Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Ed Melanson, “and the fire is not deemed suspicious.”
Saugeen Shores Fire Service reminds every one to ensue they have an active smoke alarm.
