At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Monday, Saugee Shores Fire Service received an emergency call of a fire in progress at a Victoria Street residence in Southampton.
Firefighters arrived to find the fire on the external south wall of the home and that it had spread into the roof.
“Our firefighters responded quickly and really well to knock the fire down,” said Fire Chief Ed Melanson.
The owner of the residence and his dog escaped with no injuries.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of having a working smoke alarm,” added the Chief.
The cause of the fire remains uncertain and the investigation is continuing.
