Food Basics officially opens in Saugeen Shores

Today, May 11th (2023), Saugeen Shores officially welcomed a new retail giant, Food Basics, to the community.

The opening ceremony, with a ribbon cutting by the new store’s Manager, Jason Charleton, was attended by Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau and several Food Basics Executives from Toronto.

John Manax, Vice President Operations said that with 143 stores in Ontario, “… Food Basics believes in nourishing the health and well-being of the people in the communities that we serve.  That’s why we are pleased to be able to help the two local Food Banks with a $2,500 donation each.”

Following the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting, customers who had been lining up with excitement were able to enter the new store.

Founded in 1995, Food Basics Ltd., with its headquarters in Toronto, is a Canadian supermarket chain owned by Metro Inc., a Canadian food retailer operating in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Metro is the third largest grocer in Canada, after Loblaw Companies Limited and Sobeys.
