G. C. Huston Public School learns about giving back and helping others

When G. C. Huston Public school students in Southampton decided to start a collection of food for local food banks, the Southampton Firefighters Association came to the rescue.

On Friday, December 19th, a fire truck, siren wailing and filled with food arrived at the school where excited students lined the street anxious to meet the firefighters with high-fives all around.

Once again, the community stepped forward to help, with students, families, the firefighters’ association and local businesses all ready to match the ‘400-can challenge’.
Local businesses included:
Kelly and Sons
BJS
Seaman and sons builders
Goat Sport supply
SS windows and doors

Not only was the 400-can challenge reached, but it far surpassed the goal with over 3,000 items donated.

Food began to pile up in the school entryway

The food was to be divided and distributed to the local Salvation Army Food Bank, the Saugeen First Nation Food Bank and and the Living Hope Food Basket.

It was a lesson in learning to help others and giving back to the community and the students were excited to be part of it.
