On Wednesday, MPP Rick Byers formally congratulated Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce on the work that’s happened as a result of receiving a $62,800 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2023. The grant facilitated the purchase of a dedicated vehicle for delivering critical repairs to member families of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
“Congratulations to Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce for receiving this support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. The grant will help the organization continue its excellent work in our Grey Bruce community” said MPP Rick Byers, Bruce Grey Owen Sound.
To date, several critical repairs have been successfully completed between the communities of Saugeen First Nation and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation (Neyaashiinigmiing). The new vehicle has become a valuable asset to the Habitat Grey Bruce Construction fleet, enabling the team to efficiently carry out vital renovations and repairs across various sites.
Having grown up in a Habitat home, Colin Hokea is now completing his electrical apprenticeship with the very affiliate that supported his own family over two decades ago. Colin has been an integral part of the Habitat Grey Bruce team his entire life. He started out volunteering at Build sites, then joined the ReStore team as a customer sales representative and since 2022, performing electrical installations in new Habitat homes and undertaking critical repair projects under Mike’s expert guidance.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s grant has been instrumental in enabling Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce to provide opportunity for individuals to thrive through innovative housing solutions. Colin’s story is a shining testament to Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce’s dedication to serving the residents of Grey and Bruce Counties. It is through such funding that Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce continues to fulfill its mission and vision.
