The Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Ontario Tankard presented by Bruce Power and hosted by the Port Elgin Curling Club came to a close with a ‘tooth-and-nail biter’ between two of the top teams in Curling – Team Epping and Team Howard.
(L) Epping and Howard(R) tied in the 8th end
With an almost unheard of in Curling five blank ends in order to maintain the ‘hammer’, the teams continually eliminated rocks from the house. With tied scores, at the end of the day, Team Howard came through with a 5-3 victory to become the Tankard ’22 champions. The team will move on to the Tim Horton’s Brier Canadian Curling championships were 18 men’s teams from across the country will compete at the Brier for the chance to represent Canada at the World Men’s championship.

The Tankard was held for the first time in Saugeen Shores at the Plex in Port Elgin where the hockey rink was transformed into a world-class curling facility that curlers said was among the best of rinks they had played on.
The area of Port Elgin and Southampton has a long history of curling dating back to the 1800s and the ’22 Tankard was a first for national live coverage. The event was sold out as local fans came out in support of the event, albeit under COVID attendance restrictions.

Chair of the organizing Committee, Doug Flowers, said that members of the committee and the 200 volunteers made the event a success.
