Huron Shores Hospice volunteer and board member Carol Rencheck has been inducted into the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers, a province-wide recognition presented annually by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO).
The award, named in memory of journalist and hospice champion June Callwood, honours hospice volunteers who demonstrate selfless service, compassion, generosity of spirit, and a commitment to excellence in care.

Rencheck has been an active volunteer with Huron Shores Hospice since 2017. In that time, she has served as Co-Chair and has made significant contributions through her work on the Executive, Finance, Fundraising, and Governance Committees. Known for her steady leadership and professionalism, she has played an instrumental role in supporting and growing the organization’s services and reach in the community.
In addition to her governance work, Rencheck volunteers on the front lines as a comfort care volunteer, providing bedside support and welcoming families during admissions. She is also actively involved in community education around hospice and palliative care. Her contributions extend to fundraising as well, where she serves as a lead volunteer for the organization’s annual Handbags for Hospice gala, where she is affectionately known as the “designer handbag expert.”
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate Carol’s well-deserved recognition alongside other inspiring volunteers making a difference across Ontario,” said Cathy Herbert, Executive Director of Huron Shores Hospice. “Her warmth, wisdom, and deep commitment to our mission have touched every part of our organization. This provincial recognition is a true reflection of the impact she’s made over the past eight years.”
Established in 1994, the June Callwood Award honours volunteers from HPCO member organizations who go above and beyond in their service. Each year, one nominee from each hospice is inducted into the Circle.
Huron Shores Hospice extends its congratulations to Carol Rencheck and gratitude for her ongoing service to individuals and families in need of end-of-life care.
